The Planning Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday 19th September at 5:30pm, at Southbank Marina, 12 Strathkelvin Pl, Kirkintilloch, Glasgow G66 1TJ. Please come along to show your support: we’ll be outside from 5pm, hopefully see as many of you then as possible.
The Planning office have recommended approval is granted subject to a legal agreement and meeting 17 conditions; however it is for the Councillors to decide. In light of the Planning officer’s report we feel it’s important to have a presence outside prior to the meeting to show the strength of local feeling on this: against the impact it will have on traffic in the area (we do NOT agree that an extra set of traffic lights on Kirkintilloch Road will solve this), on the secondary schools (where building more classes will create pressure on recreation and sports amenities), on the neighbouring community (where 3- and 4-storey buildings are out of character for an area bordering greenbelt), and on wildlife (where the Kingfishers will no longer be enjoyed). The Coal Authority is the only statutory body to still be objecting, due to an expected mine opening within the site. Read the report on the Council Website (opens pdf).
We hope to have people there from 5pm; the meeting starts at 5.30pm. Please come along if you can: it’s not over yet!
